Walton was a biographer of some note. His biographies included:
THE LIFE OF DR JOHN DONNE,
Poet and Dean of St Paul's Church,
London. (published 1640)
THE LIFE OF SIR HENRY WOTTON,
Knight and Provost of Eton College.
(published 1651).
THE LIFE OF RICHARD HOOKER,
Author of "The Laws of Ecclesiastical Polity"
"Behold, I have not labour'd for myself alone but for all
those who seek wisdom."
(published 1665)
THE LIFE OF GEORGE HERBERT,
"He pleased God and was beloved of him; so that, whereas
he lived amongst sinners, He translated him.
(published 1670)
THE LIFE OF ROBERT SANDERSON,
Lord Bishop of Lincoln.
(published 1678)
Walton later combined all their biographies into a single volume, since he wished
them to be seen together.
Recent research at The National Archive in Kew has revealed another aspect
of Walton's life which was previosly unknown. He was a part-time Tax-Collector.
